Just a few things to show you a little bit about me!
"ANNA URBAN, Citizen's Award 2006, In Recognition of Exemplary Assistance To The Rosemont District Fire Department"
During high school I was a member of my local volunteer fire department, and for years afterwards used those skills to help where I could. I was grateful that I was able to help those in their most dire moments, and was pleasently surprised when given this award of recognition as its first-ever recipient. I didn't set out to earn something like this, but at the same time, it is a really nice feeling that my efforts were appreciated.
In high school I really struggled with my marks, and my school experience was not a good one. I had teachers tell me I had the smarts and the skills, but I could never quite seem to connect with them in a way that translated into success on my transcripts. Obviously something changed over the years, and when I got to Durham College, so did my marks. I am inordinately proud of the fact that as a mature student with exceptionalities, I was able to consistently make the honor roll as well as placement on the Dean's List.
I feel quite lucky to have had Julie Chapman as a professor for some really critical classes in my second year. Not only was she delightful and supportive, and brought snacks to class, she made learning and doing well easy to do! Test 2 was essentially our final exam in Hospital Billing.
One of my very greatest joys in life is absolutely crochet! I see it as a moving meditation, and an act of jouful love. Not only do I get the pleasure of digging through my stash to find just the right yarn in just the perfect color, but I also get to have fun making something for someone else, then seeing the delighted smile on their face. I rarely keep my creations but that doesn't bother me, because I get so much enjoyment from the whole process that it totally makes up for it. It is also a huge help with my anxiety, and makes for an excellent icebreaker/conversation starter!
